{"id":18509,"date":"2023-02-16T00:00:13","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T00:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shenandoahcountybeekeepers.com\/?page_id=18509"},"modified":"2025-12-29T11:37:26","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T16:37:26","slug":"class-information","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.shenandoahcountybeekeepers.com\/?page_id=18509","title":{"rendered":"Class information"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-8914ace3\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-cf9a6954 gb-headline-text\">Practical Beekeeping for Beginners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cVirginia Beekeeping Teaching Consortium\u201d program, offered in fifteen areas<br>in Virginia, will host eight two-hour weekly in-person classes starting January 15 th ,<br>2026 at 7:00 pm in Woodstock. This is an exciting opportunity for new as well as<br>experienced beekeepers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In addition to the eight sessions, the program offers three field experiences at the<br>Shenandoah County Beekeepers Club apiary located in the Seven Bends State<br>Park. Students will work side-by-side experienced beekeepers receiving hands-on<br>learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Led by EAS certified Master Beekeeper Brenda Kiessling as well as experienced<br>beekeepers Amy Hodge and Scott Currie,\u00a0the sessions welcome\u00a0anyone who is<br>interested in keeping honey bees, the great pollinators. Children (generally\u00a0those<br>fifth grade and older) are encouraged but must be able to sit through the two hour<br>classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>A curiosity about bees and keeping bees alive\u00a0in Virginia is the primary<br>requirement to take the class. The class is aimed at those who want to keep bees,<br>though becoming a beekeeper is not necessary to participate. In addition, anyone<br>who has kept bees will find the class provides helpful information through subject<br>matter and class discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Classes include information on purchasing equipment, obtaining honey bees,<br>honey bee colony biology, management and location of hives, and floral sources<br>appropriate for honey bees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The cost of the class is $95 per family. Cost includes three (3) books, an electronic<br>copy of weekly lessons, reference materials, and a one-year family membership to<br>the local club. In addition, each Shenandoah County student will work with<br>an\u00a0experienced mentor throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Class Dates:\u00a0Thursdays<br>January 15, 2026<br>January 22,
